Electrical currents have their place and you're pretty sure that place is nowhere near your closet.

Unless you're talking about the annual Voltage Fashion Amplified show (April 15 at First Avenue). Last night, at a preview, most of the runway designers were showing off their collections.

There was a lot of cute stuff. What a shocker!

Here's your introduction to what we saw:

Tim & Thom: The brothers are doing mostly menswear has a slightly retro flair with functional elements. Plus a nifty tool belt for bikers and handy-types.

Frances Zerr: A "sporty meets city" collection translates into easy-to-wear pieces and a T-shirt dress that we could run around in all summer long.

Danielle Everine: She's playing with sheer and it couldn't be more feminine with pretty underthings by Jagress Intimates.

Rachel Blomgren: The coolest skirt (pictured) we've ever seen is bright red with little bags that serve as sweet pockets.

Sarah Holm: She uses edgy hand-dyed silks and structured construction in her dresses and is dabbling in swimwear.

Ivan Idland: Postage stamp-sized horses inset on skirt pleats and seriously creative patchwork techniques.

Kathryn V: This senior at the U of M is using only sustainable fabrics. The Voltage collection mixes patterns and cool nubby textures.

Max Lohrbach: He's an artist who also happens to design. This time, look for some pretty chiffon pieces and whimsical black cats painted on shirts, which will hopefully be lucky for designer and wearer alike.

Terri Martin: She uses geometry in her designs and is focused on circles, which translates not-so-literally into cool dresses and a circular leather vest or a handknit vest made from two donut-shaped pieces stitched together (your arms go through the middle of each opening).
