Not feeling the fireworks-and-sparklers vibe? Here are some other options:
Scavenger hunt
Take your cellphone and your spelunking helmet to the
Minneapolis Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center. Then text LETSPLAY to 22771 for your first clue. Answer all seven clues and recieve a free treat from the Open Field Bar & Grill by Wolfgang Puck.
Cooking School
Laura Bonicelli of Solo by Bonicelli will be Cooking with Italian Style at the
Minneapolis Farmer's Market. She'll be starting at
10:30 a.m. and using fresh ingredients from the market. Recipes and samples (!!!) will be available for cheddar-wrapped chicken with swiss chard and strawberry snap pea salad with lemon basil vinaigrette.
Shake it Up
It's weirdly difficult to find foods that are red, white and blue. Try the
Yankee Doodle shake with strawberries, blueberries and vanilla ice cream at the
Galaxy Drive In (3712 Quebec Av S, Mpls, 952-933-1857).
Facial special
Humidity? Rain? Who cares! Spend the weekend at the
Ivy Spa Club (201 S. 11th St., Mpls., 612-343-3131) and take advantage of the summer sale. Through Monday, get 20 percent off facials, massages and body treatments; 15 percent off nail treatments and 10 percent off waxing.
