Crochet needs a better publicist. Knitting enjoyed a long run in the craft spotlight, while crochet still evokes images of prissy lace tablecloths and doilies.
But it's about to get its due twist.
Artist-cum-designer Carolina Topet has created the most fetching line of crocheted-metal jewelry. Like, ever. No thread involved -- just delicate strands of silver and copper. Originally from Buenos Aires and now based in Minnesota, she also uses glass in her designs. The results? Lovely, lacelike rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. She'll do custom work upon your request. So you can have whatever your heart desires.
Except, of course, a runner for the table in the front hall.
Jewelry by Carolina Topet, $50 to $350, available at Gallery 360, Corazon (featured artist for April and May), Belle Reve, Parc Boutique, VState, Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts and by appointment with the artist.
