The authors of the best-selling "One-Yard Wonders" (Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins) have some new ideas for your scraps. Swing by the launch party (2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Crafty Planet, 2833 Johnson St NE, Mpls) for "Fabric-by-Fabric One-Yard Wonders," to get a signed copy and see finished samples from all of the projects. Then go home and start making us a parasol.

See food
Hungry? Always! Celebrate the local food scene with the first ever Charlie Awards (2 p.m., Sunday, Pantages, $35 tickets include the after-party in the IDS). The chef-centric awards were named after the restaurant Charlie's Cafe Exceptionale, which was one of the original fine dining destinations in the Twin Cities. Now if someone can explain how it is we haven't had a local chef on "Top Chef" yet -- call me.

Eat
Happy 6th anniversary to one of our regular spots -- Yum! (4000 Minnetonka Blvd, St. Louis Park, 952-922-4000). The bakery and eatery will celebrate on Friday with free mini-Patti Cake cupcakes. If you don't know what Patti Cake is, this is a required event.

Shop
Former HGTV stylist and pie baker extraordinaire Christine Hoffman of Pies & Aprons has teamed with Digs Studio for a Vintage Holiday Bazaar (5:30 to 8:30 on Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, 3800 Grand Av, Mpls). Browse the charming selection of fabric, giftware, yarn, local handmade and vintage goodies. There will be cookies and you can place orders for Thanksgiving week pies.

Swoon
Be one of the first to shop the spring 2012 ready-to-wear from Monique Lhuillier (through Saturday, 3928 W 50th St, Edina, by appointment 612-929-0747). More weekend sales here.
